Roller Disco Dance Classes

Every Tuesday night at Tiger Tiger from 7:30-9:30pm is the Roller Disco and Rollerdance session. This is a 2 hour skate session which has been running for over a year now and sees a good mix of regulars and newbies each week. Hire skates are available but MUST be pre-booked! Contact me here to book skates; otherwise you are welcome to bring your own skates.

There is a Roller Disco DJ, a licensed bar and I am on hand to teach throughout the night. Complete novices are welcome to come along and learn how to get moving; more advanced skaters may want to improve or learn new rollerdance techniques... All abilities are welcome and I encourage everybody that comes along to improve or learn a new move/skill each time they visit.

We do also get those who just want to come and enjoy the night without wanting any tuition; if that sounds more like your cup of tea then please know that you are welcome too. We get a real mix of people each week at Tiger Tiger and it is this variety which keeps the Roller Disco and Rollerdance session one of Leeds’ best kept secrets. If you haven’t been before, why not come along and give it a try?

A few questions you might have:

Q) Should I register in advance or book a place?

A)
No, it isn’t a formal lesson or anything like that- it’s a roller disco with rollerskate and rollerdance tuition available if you want to learn. Make sure you book skates in advance though- we rarely bring any spare skates along.

Q)
I want to skate more- where else can I skate in Leeds?

A)
Every Wednesday night at Jongleurs there is Skate Fever Roller Disco from 9pm-late. It is a fantastic venue and welcome to all abilities of skaters... Many people come to Tiger Tiger a couple of times to learn a few moves ready for Skate Fever on a Wednesday! See the website for more information.

Q)
Is there an age limit?

A)
Over 18’s only. There is no upper age limit- if you want to skate and feel fit and healthy enough to give it a try you are welcome to come along.

Q)
Do I need my own roller skates?

A)
No! If you would like to hire skates, please contact me first to reserve a pair (don’t forget to tell me your UK shoe size). Skate hire is only £3 per session.

Q)
What should I wear?

A)
Whatever feels comfortable! Honestly, we get fancy dress, tracksuits, smart clothes, casual, high fashion, birthday suits.... we’ve pretty much seen it all! 2 hours of skating around to great tunes can be more of a workout than you might expect so try to bear this in mind.

Q)
There’s a licensed bar- wow! Can I get wasted and skate around!?!?

A)
No! There is a bar and for many people having an alcoholic drink or two is OK whilst skating. However, the bar will happily give you free water and sells a wonderful selection of non-alcoholic drinks too so we suggest saving your heavy drinking for another time (like after the roller disco- probably not just before!). Skating whilst drunk is dangerous and if we suspect that anyone may be causing a hazard through intoxication they will be asked to remove their skates for the safety of everybody at the roller disco.

Q)
Can I wear inline skates to the session?

A) Yes, by all means inline skates are welcomed too- although they look totally different to quads, many of the moves are the same in practice. Quads just look a bit cooler and some of the moves will be easier on rollerskates. But overall, you will be able to learn just as well on inlines if that is your preference!

Q)
Do I have to wear protective pads?

A)
We strongly advise that protective gear is worn at all times whilst rollerskating. You are welcome to bring your own protective gear or borrow a set of pads from us when entering the roller disco. Simply ask as you arrive at the Roller Disco and we will happily provide you with a full set of pads.

Q)
I'm not sure I'm good enough to learn to rollerdance- is there any hope for me?

A)
As long as you can skate around with relative confidence you should be fine. The classes are designed to cater for all abilities so if you feel out of your depth with a certain move, don't worry- we won't leave you out or push you too far. The sessions are great fun and this is the priority; there's no pressure to learn really quickly (but if you're eager to do this, that's fine also)! If you're still unsure, please feel free to come along and watch or else drop me an email if you'd like more information. I can offer one-to-one tuition if you don't feel confident joining in a group session straight away.

Any questions you may still have will be answered gladly HERE.
